Day 12 of 30

Decided to go with the flower theme again today, nothing like being out of my comfort zone.
Actually it is very much out of my comfort zone.
Found these lovely Campanula hiding in a corner of the garden. I have a collection of  vases in my studio, bought over the years for still life and love the colours and shape of this little vase.

Having set up I tried premixing my colours. Well I failed with my limited pallet so delved into my box of half used tubes . I think I tried every combo of blues, violets & pinks that I possess, could I get that elusive colour that nature has so beautifully made?? Could I heck as like.

Well, this is the best I could manage

Campanula oil on board 6" x 8"

I think I will have to revisit this subject again. I hate to be defeated. I'd better show you what I was really trying to acheive

The funny thing is, looking at the photograph, I can kind of see where I went wrong. Hopefully I'll get it right next time

  1. I think it is a really pretty painting despite your angst at trying to get the right hue. I love the shine on the vase.
I often find flowers excruciating when it comes to trying to get colours right. I admire you working out of your comfort zone!

  3. It's always such a challenge getting the subtle colours of flowers right - they have so many nuances. Nevertheless, I love these blue tones.

  4. Have you tried Chinese Vermillion (Sennelier) and Ultramarine Blue? I just mixed a puddle of it and it looked really close to your flower in the photograph.

  5. I love your composition cool flowers vase and shadows against warm background. It may become your new comfort zone!

  6. Thank you all for your encouraging comments. Lori, I will have to try that, thanks. :)

  7. LOL! Are you a northerner? "Could i 'eck as like?!" - reminds me of dear Hilda Ogden!

    I adore your work, Mo!

I welcome your comments and am open to positive criticism.
