A Bit of a Catch Up

Does anyone know where the stop button is??

They say as you get older that time goes quicker but this is ridiculous! I don't think I've stopped since I last wrote way back in May and suddenly, nights are drawing in and it's almost August. Norfolk Open Studios in May and June were very successful and it was lovely to see so many friends and collectors. I was part of the trail, South of Sheringham. In all more than 100 sculptors, painters, printers and other artists took part.  Painting in Norfolk This is the second year that I have been based at The White House near Burnham Market. I had such a lovely group that it didn't seem like work at all. The weather was kind to us and we were able to get out to the coast and surrounding area every day. We made a return visit to Wiveton Hall with kind permission from Desmond (of 'Normal for Norfolk' fame) which was very well received by the group. Friends

Those of you that follow me on Instagram may have noticed my absence for the last couple of months. This is mostly because I haven't been painting much.  I have taken time to catch up with friends. It was so easy after lock down to continue to isolate so, I made a concerted effort. One of the things we did was to get together 40+ people that we hadn't seen in some cases for as many as 50 years. This involved a lot of detective work and we eventually had people coming from Cornwall, Cumbria, South Coast and London. It was lovely to see sooo many smiling faces as everyone renewed friendships.

Garden

Another reason for lack of painting is of course the garden. A couple of weeks ago we opened our garden for the village's annual Garden Crawl and Scarecrow Competition. We put many hours into the garden making it as good as we could.  The event was a huge success with 43 scarecrows dotted around the village. Our garden had a constant stream of visitors too. Fortunately it was before temperatures hit 40c then we watched as the garden visibly wilted. I have however managed to keep the hanging baskets and pots alive. I cheated a bit with our scarecrow by buying a ready made outfit and stuffing it. I had a good excuse though as I had just fractured my ankle.

Plums, Hellebores and Muscari

This is about the last of the Hellebores and Muscari so I thought I'd better get another one in quickly. I must remember to start painting them earlier next year. They are so delightful to paint in fact I think I will plan ahead and plant more.

Back in the Studio

Having had a hectic fortnight, looking after various Grandchildren, hospital visits with Dad and getting garden ready for a joint birthday party of son and Granddaughter,  I am finally back in the studio.
I resisted the temptation to tidy (procrastination is a big problem of mine).
One of my Dedham students sent me two tubes of Old Holland paint as a thank you for an enjoyable week. I was keen to try out the 'Yellow Green' so bought a couple of lemons.
I love the colour and decided to include the tube in the painting

Olives

After an exhausting week teaching at Dedham I had a lovely weekend chilling out in Norfolk with Frank and the dog. I do love olives and so had bought some nice ones with chillies to enjoy with our little tipple. I should have known better to leave them on a low table - I caught the dog with his head in the bowl so rather than waste them I thought I'd better paint them.
